What’s it like turning 53? (en español)

It’s a question I’ve been asking myself, and the honest answer is that it feels a lot better than I ever expected. Some days it feels like it happened just the other day. Other days it feels like a week or a month in the future. But what has changed since I turned 50 three years ago?

  • I no longer walk on eggshells.

  • I feel a much deeper sense of peace and freedom.

  • I say no without guilt.

  • I no longer need anyone’s approval.

  • I make my own choices now.

  • I no longer live a life I was forced to live.

  • I feel like me.

  • I like me.

  • I am me.

  • I have amazing family and friends whom I hold close to my heart.

  • I have my girlfriend, Zahira.

  • I have friends and family in Illinois, Nevada, Texas, and Wisconsin who mean a lot to me.

  • I have my parents about a mile away.

  • I go to the beach almost every morning.

  • I like puppies, kittens, tacos, and bikes, and I love taking my dogs to the beach.

  • I ride my bike in the desert a lot.

  • I live in the desert.

  • I live 2 miles from the Sea of Cortez.

  • I watched the desert turn green this year after the summer rains.

  • I have two dogs.

  • I feel great.

  • I have my health.

  • I have to poop.

  • I need more coffee.

Fifty-three looks good on me, and I’m just getting started. Now, if you’ll excuse me, the coffee and the bathroom are calling.

  • Me siento yo.

  • Me gusto.

  • Soy yo.

  • Tengo a mi novia, Zahira.

  • Me siento increíble.

  • Tengo salud.
